Full Before and After Renovation Bedroom

October 13, 2016 by ashleyt 1 Comment

Here are some photos of the full before and after renovation bedroom and bathroom. The difference is just as radical as it is anywhere else in the house. This is officially my favourite room of the house; it’s beautiful and cozy. What do you think?! We have been overloaded with renovations over the past few months, especially after flying back home to Atlanta help my parents sort out their full replacement siding with M&M Home Exteriors. I must say how impressive their work was but I can’t tell you how glad I am that both products are finished now.

Curious Find: The 1950’s French Lunchbox

May 9, 2016 by ashleyt 4 Comments

Trouvé: Gamelles d’Ouvrier

gamelle émaillé à l'ancienne

We’ve found these three gamelles (containers used to carry food) at various vide greniers in nearby villages. They are usually sold by older French ladies that can tell you a little of what they used to put into these boxes for their husbands to take to work. There are many names for these french lunch boxes, but they were mainly used for workers on construction sites or farmers in the late 50s and 60s.

Vintage Parisian Postcards

A Curious Find: Vintage Parisian Postcards

I was at the Carpentras flea market a couple weeks ago and came upon this 1920s album. I couldn’t help myself when I saw that the book was being sold with postcards as well.

Despite most likely paying too much, the first 3 pages were filled with vintage Parisian postcards. These evocative images of Parisian architecture are wonderful!

Day Out in Provence: Carpentras + Mt Ventoux

October 23, 2015 by ashleyt 4 Comments

Sunday Day out in Provence

The Sunday antique market at Carpentras is my favourite weekly antique market. As you may already know, the town of Isle sur la Sorgue is the king of antiques in the south of France. If you are looking for a particular style, period, or piece of furniture etc and have lots of extra cash- then Isle sur la Sorgue is definitely the place. The Carpentras Brocante is more low key. It is a Puces-Brocante (flea market) which means that it’s wonderfully somewhere between a vide-grenier (garage sale) and a brocante (full-blown antique market). The prices are much lower than Isle sur la Sorgue even though there are still many quality items….

Vide Grenier vs Brocante (antique markets in Provence)

May 18, 2015 by ashleyt 24 Comments

If you’re a fan of shabby chic décor then you’ve probably heard of the term brocante either in magazines or Pinterest photos. What you don’t hear very often in Anglophone circles is the term vide grenier. Antique markets in Provence are not all created equal…
