About Ashley
Ashley Tinker is a Canadian artist that has been living in Provence for 10 years. An anglophone from Montréal, Ashley moved to Provence with her partner Robin in search for La Belle Vie. She has found it in the Alpilles.
Ashley studied studio arts in Florence at Firenze Arti Visive for a year in 2008 and then received her Bacehlor’s degree in Fine Art Film photography at Concordia University in Montréal in 2013.
Ashley enjoys many creative endeavours that include photography, ceramics, drawing and painting. In the Spring, Ashley was commissioned to create six large paintings for the boutique hotel Domaine la Pierre Blanche. She will be attending the Museum of Loss and Renewal artist residency in Collemacchia, Italy this November.
After focusing mainly on photography for many years, Ashley started painting again for the first time, in 2019, since her time in Italy at the NG Art Residency studio. Shortly afterwards, she found herself gifted months of free time to work on her oil paintings due to the lockdown of the Covid pandemic. She has been focusing more her painting ever since.
Ashley draws her inspiration from the Alpilles region of Provence and it’s complex mix of agriculture and wild plants. She has a particular affinity to olive trees whose gnarly trunks and various shades of green leaves are depicted in her impasto oil paintings. She paints in her studio at home in Mollégès as well as en plein air in the regional park.

Ashley Tinker est une artiste canadienne qui vit en Provence depuis 10 ans. Anglophone de Montréal, à la recherche de « la belle Vie » Ashley et son compagnon Robin se sont installés en Provence au milieu des Alpilles.
Ashley a étudié les beaux-arts à Florence à Firenze Arti Visive pendant un an 2007-2008 et a ensuite obtenu son baccalauréat en photographie Fine Art à l’Université de Concordia à Montréal en 2013.
Depuis toujours, Ashley s’adonne à de nombreuses activités créatives, la photographie, la céramique, le dessin et la peinture. Au printemps, elle était commissionnée par Hôtel la Pierre Blanche à Eygalières à créer six grandes peintures pour l’hôtel. Elle participe d’ailleurs à la résidence d’artiste du Museum of Loss and Renewal à Collemacchia, en Italie, en novembre prochain.
Après s’être concentrée principalement sur la photographie pendant de nombreuses années, Ashley a recommencé à peindre dans le studio de la résidence artistique du NG Art à Eygalières en 2019. Elle retrouvait, pour la première fois depuis son séjour en Italie, cet art qu’elle avait un peu délaissé. Peu de temps après, la pandémie COVID et le confinement, la contraignent à prendre du temps pour elle, elle décide de travailler ses peintures à l’huile. Depuis, elle se concentre principalement sur sa peinture.
La source d’inspiration principale d’Ashley est la région des Alpilles en Provence avec son mélange complexe d’agriculture et de plantes sauvages. Elle aime particulièrement les oliviers dont les troncs noueux et les différentes nuances de vert des feuilles sont représentés dans ses peintures à l’huile en l’impasto. Elle peint dans son atelier à Mollégès mais aussi en plein air dans le parc régional.
Opening night Vernissage
The opening night last Thursday was a success! I am so grateful for the around 100 people that attended the vernissage. I also had a lot of support from the local town hall, that invited me exhibit my work in this space. Pictured here you can see the presentation by Evelyne Faure, the deputy Mayor, Annie Mary, cultural delegate from the town hall, Marielle de Masi, Library and gallery space manager and myself Ashley Tinker.

Be aware that pictures just never do the paintings justice. Make sure your screen is on full brightness. Also, the “Curious Provence” on the bottom right corner is a copyright on the image, not the painting.
Most of these paintings are quite large as this exhibition space was a task to fill. Some collectors have asked for smaller paintings and I will absolutely be featuring smaller works in my next series.
For those of you living internationally that are interested in buying and shipping a painting, I am now shipping all paintings using regular mail rolled in a PVC tube. It has proved to be the best method and is a quarter of the price of DHL / Fedex. Any framer should be able to re-stretch the canvas. There are still a few paintings available here. If you’re interested in purchasing and would like to see a higher-quality image or even a video let me know via email.
Commissions are also possible; though I already have a few that I will be spending time completing this autumn. Therefore, it would be for the winter months.

I am currently selling a signed limited edition of 40 posters from the exhibition. They are printed on high quality Hahnemuhle Photorag 308g textured paper. Therefore, if you like, you could frame just the image as a print.
