*The Fête de la Chèvre goat cheese market is on April 7th this year in Rognes (2019)
Rognes has a wonderful goat cheese market every year. A true reflection of the best of Provence!
An Provencal Goat Cheese Market
Rognes is a charming village that will come alive with the bleating of goats and the swift movements of locals trying to buy the best goat cheese breads, tarts, and all manner of wonderful by-products. There will be 12 producers selling their cheeses, each chosen for their own particular methods of producing. The cheeses range from creamy, grassy, and fresh goat cheese. They range from being made the morning of, to knock your socks off piquante cheeses that have been deliberately forgotten on a palette for a few weeks. There is also a meal prepared centered on goat cheese. This is of course accompanied with some obligatory chilled rosé to sip in the sun following your exhausting morning of buying and sampling beautiful cheese! Ah, life is good.
Fête de la Chèvre à Rognes
Last year, I thought I would look around at all the stalls before choosing which cheeses I liked best. Not the best idea… The round morsels were quickly wrapped and tucked away into brown bags ready for a perfect Sunday lunch- with a baguette of course…
Visit a Goat Cheese Farm
If you’d like to visit a goat cheese farm, this is an option for my Alpilles and Luberon day tours where we often visit a market in the morning, then visit producers in the afternoon. We can also skip the market and visit local historic sites. Each tour is different! Email me for a quote and see Tripadvisor CuriousProvence tours for reviews.
